Understanding Contemplation in the Gene Keys Journey
Beyond Meditation to Deep Insight and Self Discovery
*****7-Part, Mini exploration into the Venus Sequence*****
This is part 2 of 7. For part 1 go here.
One of the top questions I get from clients when we do readings about the Gene Keys is on the concept of contemplation. How to do it, what it means, if they're doing it wrong, and how long it takes. Contemplation is agnostic to what you are contemplating, you don’t need to be into the Gene Keys to want to learn to contemplate or to deepen the practice. The topic of contemplation comes up in relation to the Gene Keys because they are such an abstract, esoteric concept that the way to understand them is via contemplation.
So, before diving deep into the Venus Sequence or any portion of the Gene Keys, it's essential to understand three key points:
1. The Gene Keys are nonlinear,
2. Understanding your profile takes as long as it needs to take,
3. The Gene Keys require a significant measure of contemplation
#1 and 2 above are passive and just require your patience. The only thing within your control is contemplation. So that’s where we will start.
Contemplation is not Meditation
While meditation involves emptying the mind and observing thoughts, contemplation is an active process of inquiry. Here's how they differ:
Meditation:
Involves sitting still, eyes closed,
Focuses on watching the breath,
Aims to release "doing”
Contemplation:
Involves asking questions of the Universe, God, or your subconscious,
May include placing reminders in visible places,
Can involve stream-of-consciousness writing,
Takes place during everyday activities,
Can be spoken aloud or written down,
Contemplation is active
Contemplation can mean writing about the topic in a morning-pages style of automatic writing. It’s actively thinking about a topic but also passively thinking about it, perhaps while you do menial tasks like fold laundry, clean the house, walk the dog, or do the dishes. Contemplation is rather an art.
Having a clear and empty mind helps, so meditation - while not being contemplation, greatly supports its success.
Contemplation is a practice. Its secret weapon is… the PAUSE.
The Power of the Pause
God is in the pause.
God speaks in the stillness.
The pause is a crucial element of contemplation practice. In the moments where you are not taking in any information. When you are still. That is when you can listen to your soul. If you want to be free from the hustle. Free from disturbing feelings or thoughts, the only way out is through. Lean in to the noise, instead of drowning it out with activity, food, booze, or other distractions.
The Triple Flame App
The Triple Flame App, introduced by the Gene Keys team, is a powerful tool for cultivating presence through regular pauses. This free app not only sends customizable pause reminders throughout your day but also shows you how many others are pausing alongside you. As an added benefit, it tracks which Gene Keys are being highlighted by the sun at any given time, offering free audio descriptions to deepen your understanding.
The pause reminder feature is truly transformative. Consider it a "cheat code" for presence—an invitation to return to the present moment throughout your day. Whether you're giving a presentation, writing an email, or having lunch with colleagues, these gentle notifications serve as anchors to ground you more deeply in your current experience. There's no need to stop what you're doing or excuse yourself to meditate; instead, it's about expanding your awareness while remaining engaged in your activity.
During these pauses, you're invited to open all your senses and fully receive what the moment offers. Notice what you hear, smell, see, taste, and touch. If circumstances allow, you might close your eyes for a brief three-minute reset, but this isn't necessary for the practice to be effective.
Think of these pauses as contemplation training. After just a few weeks of consistent practice, you will start to notice significant changes: a better memory, the ability to stay grounded a bit longer when sh*t inevitably hits the fan as it tends to do, and even greater sense of presence. As you continue this practice, you'll likely experience improvements in focus and intuition—the pause is truly transformational.
Last recommendation I have is the concept of “Private Aura Time” from Christie Inge. She is a human design savant, among many other disciplines. Without getting into the human design rabbit hole (topic for another day) Christie recommends daily private aura time. What that means is that you should spend at least 15 minutes per day without any outside inputs, no music, no podcasts, no audiobooks, no conversations with other people. Your pets are OK. It can be time you are getting ready in the morning, shower, dressing, putting makeup on. It’s basically, contemplation time. Time to listen to yourself.
In my writings about the Gene Keys and Sequences contemplations I talk about how I use the Gene Keys book and other Gene Keys specific data to contemplate on the specific path or sphere.
Advanced Contemplation Practices
Dan Tien Meditation
Another powerful practice I learned while starting out my Gene Keys journey is from Qi Gong: the Dan Tien Meditation. The Dan Tien, also called the Lower Dantien, is a key energy center in Qigong practice, located approximately 2-3 inches below the navel. Meditating on the belly, specifically focusing on this area, can help cultivate internal energy, balance emotions, and promote physical and mental well-being. This can be quite a powerful practice. It is said the belly holds the knowledge of lifetimes and the practice should be done with reverence. You may get shown flashes of memories, feelings, emotions that you have kept shuttered. Just another reason for taking your time with this process.
Dan Tien Meditation Practice:
Sit in a meditative pose, with minimal distractions and noise (important!)
Take 3-4 cleansing, deep breaths,
Place both hands on your belly,
Observe thoughts, let them go,
Focus on breath and make note of what you see and feel afterward
I find it most effective if you can have a quiet space where you can listen to your body and have as little outside interruptions as possible.
Mudras in Gene Keys Practice
Mudras are sacred hand positions that come from ancient Hindu traditions. If you've ever done yoga, you might recognize the prayer hands position at your heart - that's called Anjali Mudra. These hand positions are believed to act as a pitch guide for specific energy states. These physical gestures can also help shift your mental and emotional state, much like how a smile can actually help you feel happier.

In the Gene Keys system, each of the 64 Gene Keys has its own unique mudra. These specific hand positions are designed to help you connect more deeply with each Gene Key's wisdom. Richard Rudd refers to them as tuning forks for contemplating that Gene Key’s essence.
What makes mudras fascinating is how natural they feel once you start practicing them. While it might seem strange at first that simple (and some are not so simple) hand positions could be so meaningful, you may find your hands naturally fall into these positions, almost as if your body remembers them.
You can learn all 64 Gene Key mudras through video demonstrations by Richard Rudd on the Gene Keys website (link below).
This physical practice helps ground the theoretical wisdom into your everyday experience. Let’s delve into the Venus Sequence together with the next post in this series. Subscribe to not miss it as it comes on live.
Don’t worry if you can’t get to it now, this teaching will find you when your soul is ready to receive it.
